In 2001, shortly after that first project on Daufuskie Island, Hall and Hull
Architects was asked by the Mayor of Bluffton,
South Carolina (Hank Johnston), to design a series of
“Off-Site-Built” houses intended to fill a much-needed
housing demand in the Historic District of the town. The Mayor’s
vision was to provide a series of pre-designed, pre-approved,
pre-priced, “Off- Site-Built Houses” that would give the
residents of Bluffton's historic district a low cost and historically
correct housing option to replace the aging mobile homes.
Hall and Hull Architects went on to design what is now known as the “Small
House Series” to fill this need.

Within 3 years after its formation, ABS had developed the Small House Series, The
Garden Series, and the Tidal Collection. ABS houses are now produced by 10 factories
throughout SC, NC, and GA.

ABS initially worked with partners for the on-site construction part of their
projects. That service was eventually brought in-house to ensure
the highest level of quality during the entire construction process. The end result is
the best possible experience for the home buyer.
